Laurette Johnson

January 26, 1959 ~ October 4, 2022 (age 63)

Obituary

Laurette Hickmon, born on January 26,1959 to the parents of Willie C. Deckard and Earlie Hickmon in Terrell, Texas. After moving to Dallas at the age of 6, Laurette attended Old City Park, James Madison and Pinkston High School of Dallas. Later, she became a wife and to that union, children were born. She was a loving parent to Alonzo Hickmon, LaTaisha McCoy, Nakia McCoy and Thomas Ghetubah, which was the highlight of her life. Years later, she reunited and married Johnnie Johnson and welcomed Jonathan Wyatt as her own son.

Laurette enjoyed crocheting, spending time with her family, traveling, singing, cooking and living life to the fullest. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Laurette was someone you could talk to about anything and she never judged. But she would also advise you to seek God first. Her smile could light up the whole room. She was strong willed and very motivated to accomplish her goals. Laurette’s genuine heart made her who she was. She didn’t meet a stranger and when you have one conversation with her, you were hooked. This was someone who never missed your birthday – you would always get a call and this will be truly missed. That was her character – she never changed.

Laurette joined Praise Temple in Seagoville, Texas in 1995and followed the congregation to Desoto, Texas. She was a faithful member, serving on the Praise and Worship Team, sang in the choir and anyone else you needed her. She was under the direction of Bishop Terrance Burrell and Pastor Regina Burrell. Laurette earned her wings on October 4,2022 and was preceded in death by her father Willie Deckard and great-grandson X’Zavion Thirkill.

She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Johnnie Johnson; mother, Earlie Hickmon Johnson; sisters, Sharon Hickmon and Wonder Faye Glaze; brother, Bobby Hartfield; children- Alonzo Hickmon, LaTaisha McCoy, Nakia Porter (Twon), Jonathan Wyatt (April), and Thomas Ghetubah(Quicha). Grandchildren- Passion Oliver, Precious McCoy, Damion Hickmon, Darwin Oliver, Chaunacie McCoy, Dasia’Nee McCoy, Chole Parker, Thomas Conwright, Dakairi Conwright, Mekhi Ghetubah, Janie Bennett, Damani Ghetubah; Jonathan Wyatt Jr.; great-grands: Ka’Mariyah McCoy, Grayson Key, Kyrie Oliver, Za’Kyrin Thirkill, Zhy’Aire Thirkill, Deiah Walker and Kingston Simms. Laurette’s lifetime friend/sister, Zettie Mae (Mae-Mae) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts and friends, whom she loved dearly.
